9 myles - 1.37:16

Gray's/Torrey's - noon
50s, scattered rain clouds, snowy
mind/body - good
easy effort

Prescribed workout: 60 minute uphill walking

Actual workout: 9 myles - 1.37:16 - avg. 10:48 ~2500 ft elevation gain

Shoulda known this early in the year that anything above 11,000 ft would be snow covered. And not just any ordinary snow either! It's the soft stuff laced with rigid branched bushes that gouge your lower legs as you punch through every 3rd step. The kind of snow that laughs at snowshoes and crampons. Needless to say I didn't make it to the top of Gray's, probably only to the 12,000 ft mark. The road (Grizzly Gulch) from I-70 was pretty clear up to the TH parking lot so I got a good workout going up and quad pounding coming back down. So since I felt cheated on my workout I decided to run on the CTD trail that parallels I-70 for about 20 minutes and called it a day. If anything else this run got me in the mood for Hard Rock - frozen feet and all!

Good to see that Arby's job is still giving you plenty of time to train... I gotta find a way to work less!

Nice!! Could a person drive all the way to the trailhead yet? Thinking about heading up there Sunday morning to play around.

Fish - had a night shift in Silverthorne. Work smarter, not harder.

Shad - Grizzly Gulch is clear to within 1/4 mile of the TH parking lot. It looks like someone has gone through but it was tough going. I bet by the weekend it's clear.

Thanks for the update. I was thinking either Grays, Herman's Gulch (been wanting to check this out) or some of the Longs Peak trail on Sunday morning. Thanks again.

How far you plan on going up Pikes this Sat? I need to know so I can notify search & rescue...

That's mighty wide of you Jon but I think we'll turn around once we hit snow. Snow is like acid, it burns!
