The...Well, thought to report back to you on Layton. The course started on Antelope Island and ended at a park in Layton. If you were to walk out of our backyard and walk due west (across the lake), you would more or less run into the race start. The race started at 6:00am under the stars which was very nice and awfully pretty; just too early for my liking. The temperature was just right – not too cold and not too hot. About mile 8 as it started to get light, you could see quite a few buffalo milling close to the road. A couple snorted and started to run – fortunately away from the road. The sun came up over the mountains just before we got to the causeway so it was a nice view running in. I had a really good time going as I hit the ½ way point at 1:33:40 and was feeling pretty good. I made it to mile 21 at 2:32, but then the wheels came off. It took me almost an hour to finish the last 5.2 miles. I don’t think I hydrated quite enough as I was starting to cramp up. I could also have used more than one 20+ training run (only 2 weeks before the race - dumb) … but it was fun anyway.

Here are the results for my age group. Note the name at the top … It was a slow race … ;-)... you would have kicked butt.

http://www.milliseconds.com/participants/final_list/division/120220

Guess it pays to run in obscure races.

Greg did the 50 in something like 9:43 - really good!Wes Shadownoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3775111454657693165.post-31292242615494184532010-10-07T14:08:45.855-06:002010-10-07T14:08:45.855-06:00So if you run 3.15 and genetics play any role then...So if you run 3.15 and genetics play any role then Greg should run a 6.30 in his 50 mile race on Saturday, right?

Good luck Wesley - good to hear you are running. Way to tough it out. Sounds like your son takes after you; what a gem. BTW - I'm hoping to run between 3:15-3:30. In addition to that, Nicole served as my mom at like five aid stations and the finish, so I owe her big for that. You guys made the race a lot more fun than it would have been otherwise, and I appreciated having you out there. Sorry I didn't see you at the finish. Also, I have your shirt that I want to return. Give me a call so I can get your info and send it back. My phone lost all its contacts so this is on you. Do it! I know things don't go as planned so running a hundred really comes down to minimizing problems when they happen - I think I did that pretty well and rebounded fairly quick but just ran out of real estate and will power to chase.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06698749333112163049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3775111454657693165.post-63566408347968471502010-09-28T13:27:24.647-06:002010-09-28T13:27:24.647-06:00Nice run Scott!
